Training and facilitation is an important and integral part of many of our assignments.
We also deliver practical seminars and workshops about our evaluation, improvement and innovation methods.

Training
Succesfully introducing new ways of doing things invariably requires new knowledge and skills.
This comes from formal training initially and then via on the job experience, where the new skills become routine behaviours.
In our experience, for best outcomes training must occur at several levels.
- Employees involved in improvement projects must be trained in the appropriate improvement methods and approaches. Training should be provided only as needed, and it must be practical and hands on. Our approach is to keep it simple and only train in the tools and techniques the team will need in the immediate future. Other more advanced tools can be introduced, when required, by facilitators.
- We identify and train ‘champions’ or, as we call them, facilitators. The success of the new ways of doing things depends as much on the improvement teams working together as it does on using improvement tools and techniques. And it is the facilitators that make the teams work successfully. We train facilitators in the tools and techniques of improvement, as well as in facilitation and team-building skills.
- At the management level, all manager must support and understand the new ways of doing things. Our management training focuses on the principles of continuous improvement theory and management’s role in influencing culture. Having senior managers genuinely on board from the beginning is crucial to ensuring that other staff and stakeholders become engaged too.
Where training is provided as part of a wider improvement assignment, we can also provide ongoing coaching, mentoring and moderating services.
One of our training techniques involves the very popular Blast Game. And we are proficient in the use of a variety of Tools and Methods.
Seminars and Workshops
From time to time ACIG consultants deliver single topic workshops and seminars.
We deliver workshops on:
- Evaluation;
- Benchmarking;
- Lean in Government;
- Continuous Improvement; and
- Leadership.
Sometimes we deliver a workshop tailored to the staff of a particular organisation. We’ve recently delivered workshops at Consumer Affairs Victoria, SA Police and to the SA Office of the Health and Community Complaints Commissioner.
These workshops are a useful, low cost means of introducing staff to new ways of doing things. Contact us to discuss how we might best tailor a workshop to meet your own requirements.
At other times we deliver workshops open to any interested person or organisation. Our recent Lean in Government seminar, held in Adelaide, was so popular we were forced to repeat it over three days. Contact us to find out about forthcoming open workshops.
Certificate III and IV in Competitive Manufacturing
A number of companies within the Jeld-WEN group have engaged ACIG to deliver Certificate III and Certificate IV training to their manufacturing teams. Jeld-WEN has received direct government subsidies for this training, amounting to some 80% of the total cost. The company has also realised genuine and substantial productivity gains as a direct result of their staff members’ new skills.
We can offer you the same opportunity.
In partnership with Swinburne University of Technology we will deliver the Certificate IV in Competitive Manufacturing program, and the Certificate III in Process Manufacturing.
The reasons for basing an approach on certificate level training are:
- It attracts federal government funding, which helps to offset the costs to your company.
- It is based on best practices from the Australian Qualifications Framework, a nationally endorsed framework for all qualifications in post-compulsory education and training.
- Each trainee who completes the course will receive a nationally recognised qualification.
- It has been successfully used by many companies to implement Lean Thinking, including companies such as Stegbar Windows & Doors, Stegbar Shower Screens, and Airlite in NSW.
